Getting Skinny
Episode 11
In the world of shallow water angling, nothing gets better than casting to fish that are too big for the water they’re swimming in. Just like a fish, when you’re hungry enough, you may do something you’ll regret. It’s been a long day, you missed lunch, and now you’re boxing out your 10-year old niece to get to the bar-b-que chicken first. Fish often become just as impatient, getting on a flat that’s just begun to take on the first of the tide. It’s at this point when we’ll most likely do something stupid. Snap at your wife, or strike at a gold spoon.
However, in the world of moving water, tides, you want to make sure you understand when it’s safest to move in, or more importantly, to move out. Join Editor Mike Conner, in the gulf, as he goes over the many important details of getting your boat in and out of some of the skinniest of water. And then head east and join Blair Wickstrom as he fishes even shallower water in the Mosquito Lagoon.
No matter if you’re fishing northern flats or the mid-Atlantic marshes for stripers, or the marled rocks of the keys for bonefish the same rules apply. Tune in to this week’s episode of Shallow Water Angler TV and learn what it takes to fish the barely-wet flats.
